Mary was the most curious girl in the whole village.
She was always asking,
“Why is the sky blue? Why doesn’t the moon have a tail? Why do cats purr?”

Her parents smiled, though sometimes they grew a little tired of all her endless “whys.”

One day, while walking through a meadow, Mary noticed something shiny in the tall grass.
She pushed the leaves apart and gasped — it was a real spaceship! Small, but oh so wonderful.

On its side were the words: “Star Beam.”
Mary touched a button, and the ship spoke in a cheerful voice,
“Hi there! Ready for an adventure?”
“You bet!” she said. “But I have to be home in time for dinner!”
